Hot summer temperatures are giving way to cool breezes and crisp nights. Fall is definitely around the corner, and so are lots of activities happening in the greater Des Moines area. In fact, there many things to do in the autumn season in Des Moines, from pumpkin patches to wine tasting. Read on for some fun fall things to do!

Geisler Farms: If a 10 acre corn maze and pumpkin patch are on your autumn list, this is the place for you to experience the fun of the harvest. There are lots of things for kids such as pedal karts, the corn bin, and fun zone. For a small fee, there are also hayrides available.

Center Grove Orchard: What fall is complete if you don’t pick your own apples? There are plenty of pickings going on at Center Grove Orchard. Pick apples and a pumpkin, enjoy a hayride, interact with farm animals, and take a jump on the giant bounce pillow. Des Moines Breweries: There are several breweries in the Des Moines area. Exile Brewing Company pays tribute to the immigrants who embraced the American Dream. Confluence Brewing Company brews craft beer that is proudly Iowan. Court Avenue Brewing Company celebrates bygone Iowa breweries that were primarily shut down during prohibition. The 515 Brewing Company was started by two native Iowans who love Des Moines and beer, which is reflected in their eclectic beer line up.

Des Moines Wineries: If wine is your thing, you are in luck while in Des Moines. Jasper Winery is just minutes from downtown, and prides itself on using grapes grown in Iowa to create spectacular wine varietals. Summerset Winery is located just south of Des Moines, and is one of the largest producing wineries in the state. Snus Hill Winery boasts four generations of Swedish history and an immaculate landscape for a great wine tasting experience.

Parks and Trails: Take in some spectacular fall foliage while experiencing some of the best public trails in Iowa. With over 4,000 acres of parkland and 45 miles of trails to explore and a wide variety of amenities such as basketball courts, BMX track, boat and bicycle rentals, disc golf, enclosed and open-air shelters, equipment rentals and concessions, horseshoes, picnic areas with tables and grills, playgrounds, ponds and fishing, soap box derby track, soccer fields, softball fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, wading pools, skateboarding, and more.
